First stop on our first day of touring, Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel), just across the bay from Marazion. Mousehole is famous in Cornwall for its display of Christmas lights around the harbour. At the left edge of the photo is part of their tribute to the Queen's Golden Jubilee. |
I ran across this great little place while looking for the post office (which I never did find) |
I've included this photo for several reasons - it's a very good picture of a typical 2-lane country road in Cornwall. It also gives a close look at the hedgerows, which line all the lovely country roads. Notice the granite wall on the right? That's what's under the greenery on the left, too. All the hedgerows are solid granite walls which have been overgrown with foliage. |
This photo, and the one above, were taken near a tiny shop called The Old Mill (the roof is just visible at the top left). We stuck Gabe in to give perspective to the dense foliage. It was a stark contrast to the view just a few miles further on, where there was not a tree in sight for miles! |
These are the Merry Maidens, one of those "unexplained" stone formations found in southern England. Legend says that one evening, a group of young girls was dancing in the moonlight. Dancing being forbidden, they were turned to stone as punishment. |
